The Broken Binding Press has signed a nine-book deal for six figures from self-publishing “phenomenon” Ryan Cahill.
In the first deal for the publisher, Matt Holland, director and founder, acquired English language world print rights directly from the author. The deal includes five novels and four novellas. Of Blood and Fire, the first book in the deal, is due for publication on 2nd September 2025. The entire series will be printed with “beautiful” covers designed by Tom Roberts with black-and-white interior artwork. The old cover edition for the last book in the series will be sold simultaneously with the new edition so readers can complete their collections.
Originally self-published, The Bound and The Broken series is a “classic” epic fantasy series. Set in Epheria, a land divided by war, Of Blood and Fire follows a group as they navigate their way through a world that wants them dead. It is billed by the publisher as a “massively sprawling, multi-POV epic that promises to rekindle the flames of classic fantasy”.
Holland commented: “At The Broken Binding Bookstore, we have championed this series since its independent launch in 2021, and in that time the biggest obstacle we’ve faced has been keeping the book in stock! Now that we’re stepping into the publishing industry as The Broken Binding Press, it made sense that The Bound and The Broken be our first acquisition, to bring it to the wider audience that it deserves and allow readers all across the world to discover this sensational series.”
Cahill added: “I’m beyond excited to finally be able to announce this deal. The Broken Binding Press is a special company, run by people who genuinely have a burning passion for fantasy and for the book world as a whole. I know they will treat the series with the love and care that I would myself, and that means everything to me.”
The launch of The Broken Binding Press was announced in August 2024.
