Tinder Press picks up McIver crime debut

Tinder Press has picked up Ruth McIver’s debut crime novel in a joint deal with Hachette Australia.

The firms jointly acquired world rights, excluding North America, to I Shot the Devil, from Jacinta di Mase Management for publication in July 2020. The book has already won the Australian 2018 Richell Prize for Emerging Writers.

Tinder Press publishing director Imogen Taylor said: “I love the small town flavour, the sense of a community imploding, the buried secrets, the background of police cover ups, corruption and racism, the stunning portrayal of teenage hysteria and sexuality, and, of course, the voice from the dead returning in the notebooks. It's a terrific novel and I’m very proud to be launching such a great new writer with my friends and colleagues from Australia, especially my editorial counterpart, publisher Vanessa Radnidge.”
