Tiny Tree Children’s Books has snapped up the debut picture book from actress Terenia Edwards.
James Shaw, publisher, acquired world rights to The Lonely Tiger directly from the author. It will publish in 2023.
The announcement comes ahead of the 2022 Edinburgh Fringe where Edwards will perform in "I, Piano", a children’s musical production by Adrian Hornsby. Edwards’ previous credits include a role as Rachel Verinder in the 2016 BBC drama "The Moonstone".
The Lonely Tiger represents a new chapter in Edwards’ career who began writing the book in 2020 before submitting it to Tiny Tree as part of its open submissions scheme. The synopsis explains: "Tiger is lonely. After all, he’s the only Tiger in the jungle. He loves his friends and he loves a good party. But, with his massive paws and booming roar, Tiger feels like he just doesn’t fit in. If only Tiger could see what his friends see…"
Shaw said: “Terenia is such a talent! I loved the story as soon as I read it. It fits perfectly with what we’re looking to do as a publisher. After our first meeting with Terenia I knew we had to work with her — it’s clear this book means a lot to her.”
For this project Edwards has partnered with award-winning illustrator Serverus Lian. “Terenia asked us if she could work with Severus” Shaw added. “As soon as we saw Severus’ work we were set on having her work on the book. You’re going to love how she’s brought this story to life.”
Edwards said: “I’m thrilled to be working with the team at Tiny Tree, The process so far has been joyous and fun and our vision for the book aligns beautifully. I also love so many of their previous projects, such as More Than a Me and Setsuko and The Song of the Sea. Releasing a children’s book has been a dream of mine for years. I couldn’t be happier that this story is my debut book.”
