Titan Books has bagged At Dark, I Become Loathsome from "horror sensation" Eric LaRocca.
Editor-at-large Cath Trechman acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Stephanie Koven at Blackstone Publishing. The novel has been optioned by actor Norman Reedus’ production company bigbaldhead. Blackstone Publishing will publish LaRocca’s new novel in the US in partnership with the production company in January 2025, simultaneously with Titan Books in the UK.
LaRocca’s agent, Priya Doraswamy of Lotus Lane Literary, said: “[LaRocca’s] writings are proof of his deep understanding of human pathos, and devastatingly so. Eric is brilliant and compassionate, and I can’t wait for his UK readership to get their hands on this novel.”
Billed as a "horrifying, yet hopeful, tale of death, trauma and love", At Dark, I Become Loathsome is the story of a grieving man who constructs "a peculiar ritual for those whose desire to die is at war with their yearning to live a better life". But a new connection in the man’s life brings painful revelations "kicking and screaming into the light".
“I am honoured to partner with Titan Books to release the UK edition of At Dark, I Become Loathsome,” LaRocca said. “This novel is very close to my heart and I cannot wait to share this story of grief, trauma and obsession with my UK readers.”
Trechman commented: "“Eric writes the most devastating horror with such beauty and humanity, and At Dark, I Become Loathsome is one of his most affecting and brilliant works yet."
