Titan Books has acquired Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die, a stand-alone, queer comedic fantasy from début author and illustrator Greer Stothers.
Fiction editor Katie Dent bought world English-language rights, including audio, from Ben Miller-Callihan at Handspun Literary Agency, with publication scheduled for February 2026.
The publisher said: “In this hilarious, heart-warming, queer fantasy romance, a cowardly knight throws himself on the mercy of a mad sorcerer to escape his prophesied death. Packed with eccentric characters, from a vengeful elf with a concussion to a kindly dragon, a brilliant grumpy-sunshine pairing and witty writing, readers will fall in love with this whimsical, fast-paced romp."
Stothers said: “Being autistic and non-binary has definitely influenced this genre-bending story of gay sorcerers, knights who switch from body to body, concussed bi-curious elves, and sentient spaceships.
“All these nonsensical elements work together to express a deeper truth about the queer experience: that family is where you find it, and that you must snatch every moment of happiness you can, despite the brutality of the surrounding world.”
Dent said: “I was head over heels for this book from the first few lines and could not put it down. Hilarious, off-the-wall, imaginative and touching, Apparently, Sir Cameron Needs to Die takes two people who couldn’t be less alike—incorrigible, ever-so-slightly silly Sir Cameron and surly, obsessive Merulo—and throws them together in extreme circumstances, in a world brimming with vengeful elves, vultures, dragons, and (probably) absentee gods. I’m so excited for readers to dive into this brilliant story.”
