Titan Books has landed The Gryphon King in a three-book deal from Sara Omer.
Fiction editor Katie Dent acquired world English rights from Anna Carmichael at Abner Stein on behalf of Lane Clarke at Ultra Literary. The Gryphon King will be published in July 2025.
Inspired by the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkic mythology, the trilogy is "brimming with morally ambiguous characters and forbidden romance" with "expansive" worldbuilding and queer and polyamorous romances.
Dent commented: "I was swept off my feet within the very first pages of The Gryphon King by the scale of the world Sara has created and her gorgeous prose. This is a truly epic fantasy, full of complex, conflicted characters, terrifying monsters and deadly plagues. This is a series to get lost in, and I can’t wait for readers to discover it."
Omer added: "I wanted to create Middle Eastern-coded characters and cultures with the same nuance often reserved for Western analogs. Foremost this is a story about the weight of familial duty, the seduction of ambition, and how bonds of love can be abused, sometimes unconsciously, to manipulate the people we care about. Additionally, I also wanted to ask the question of how fantasy monsters would respond to human encroachment and natural disasters in ways that we observe in animals today."
