Titan Books has landed Oliver K Langmead’s "wildly imaginative" Calypso, a science-fiction novel written in verse.
Managing editor George Sandison acquired world English rights from Alex Cochran at Conville & Walsh. The book will be published in February 2024.
Calypso is a "high-stakes eco-adventure of colony ships, shattering moons and cataclysmic war in a new Eden, delivered in a uniquely compelling form". Titan Books has previously published Langmead’s Birds of Paradise and Glitterati. Langmeade commented: "Calypso is the result of six years of careful craft, resulting in a page-turner science-fiction poem that marries vast and intimate perspectives, ruminating on the future of humanity and our relationship with our planet. To have found a publisher willing to work with me on such an unusual book, and with such enthusiasm, is a testament to their conviction that speculative fiction should be a place where writers experiment and innovate."
Sandison added: "Calypso is a burst of light, a timely reminder of the wonder and majesty that draws people to science fiction. It’s a gripping story of the war for humanity’s next home; it’s a vibrant, high-stakes adventure packed with shattered moons and alien worlds; it’s a beautiful and compassionate revolution in form. Calypso is the most extraordinary and exciting thing Oliver has ever written, and deserves to sit as a landmark work for the genre for years to come. Honestly, I feel incredibly lucky to be able to bring it to the world."
