Titan Books has scooped In the Shadow of the Fall, the first novella in Tobi Ogundiran’s fantasy duology.
Fiction editor Katie Dent acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, including audio, from Chris Scheina at TorDotCom. Ogundiran is represented by Alex Cochran at the C&W Agency. The novella will be published in the UK and US in July 2024.
"I’m absolutely delighted that Katie and the brilliant Titan team will be bringing Tobi’s fantastic novellas to readers in the UK," said Cochran.
Ogundiran’s duology is inspired by Yoruba mythology and follows an untried acolyte who "in her desperation to speak with the orisha she worships accidentally reignites a cosmic war". "The fate of her gods—and of her — now lies in her inexperienced hands," the publisher said.
Dent said: “Epic, intricate and hugely compelling, In the Shadow of the Fall had me on the edge of my seat from the very first page. Tobi’s writing is stunning and I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with him to bring Ashâke’s story to readers in the UK."
“I am excited to work with Katie and the brilliant team at Titan, doubly thrilled that soon enough UK readers will get to experience the world of secret cults and magical griots and Yoruba gods”, said Ogundiran.
