Titan Books has swooped for Sarah Maria Griffin’s "beautifully told" modern horror Eat the Ones You Love.
Former editor Davi Lancett acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from DongWon Song at Howard Morhaim Literary Agency. Editor-at-large Cath Trechman will oversee publication for April 2025 simultaneously with Tor in the US.
Griffin’s Eat the Ones You Love follows a young woman who begins work at a flower shop and discovers a flesh-eating, sentient plant, Baby.
The synopsis continues: "Cared for by the florist, Neve, [Baby] watches her and her friends as they struggle to build lives in the chaos of their slowly collapsing workplace. When Shell comes to work with Neve, the two women are drawn together, and Baby begins to hatch a plan."
“I can’t wait to share the strange landscape of Eat The Ones You Love with readers – it’s very much a book about where I come from, and a decade spent working in service and retail," said Griffin. "So as well as being a story about obsession, and hunger, it is also a story about trying to find yourself and a sort-of family, in your work.”
Trechman added: “Eat the Ones You Love is full of complicated, funny, beautifully drawn characters with a creeping darkness at its core. Packed with heart and horror, it’s a book to fall in love with and we couldn’t be more excited to be publishing it in the UK.”
