Titan has netted three novellas, including a science fiction retelling of Antigone, from author of the Divergent series Veronica Roth.
Senior editor Sophie Robinson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Chris Scheina, assistant director of subsidiary rights at Macmillan. Arch-Conspirator will be published in February 2023 with the following standalone retellings publishing in autumn 2023 and spring 2024.
Arch-Conspirator is a "vivid" retelling of the Sophocles tragedy Antigone set outside the last city on earth. It will join Titan Books’ list of contemporary retellings of classic tales such as J M Barrie’s Peter Pan and Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland.
Robinson commented: "I absolutely loved Arch-Conspirator and read it in a single breath. It is a visionary science-fiction retelling like nothing I’ve ever read — an exploration of humanity’s worrying fascination with legacy but told with tenderness and compassion. And Antigone’s bold choices — her refusal to be bowed — will stay with me for a very long time. I can’t wait for UK readers to discover this story anew."
Roth added: "I’m so pleased to be working with the team at Titan Books on this futuristic reimagining of Antigone, a complex, fascinating tragic heroine of the ancient world who has haunted me since I first encountered her. And I’m particularly thrilled to be able to share Arch-Conspirator with readers in the UK!"
