Tor has landed two science fiction novels from Peter F Hamilton, beginning with Exodus: The Archimedes Engine.
Publisher Bella Pagan acquired UK and British Commonwealth rights with audio, excluding Canada, from Penguin Random House US. Exodus: The Archimedes Engine, the first in the duology, will be published on 19th September 2024.
Archetype Entertainment, a game development studio, recently released a new online role-playing game called "Exodus" set 40,000 years in the future when humanity has fled Earth. Hamilton is a creative consultant on the "Exodus" video game and has set his novel Exodus in the same universe as the game. The novel will depict a similar "kind of problems, technologies and challenges that characters will experience inside the game" to "immerse readers in a thrilling, action-packed, sci-fi epic".
Pagan commented: "The sheer scale of Peter’s epic far-future adventure is entirely breathtaking. No science fiction fan will want to miss out on this extraordinary journey into the unknown."
James Ohlen, co-founder and executive creative director at Archetype Entertainment, said: "[Hamilton] creates fantastic science-fiction worlds, with a level of detail that transports the reader to the centre of an action-packed story that feels so real, it blurs the lines between our world and his. I am thrilled to have him as a partner on Exodus helping us to create this new sci-fi video game world for the Exodus franchise that will engage players for years to come."
Hamilton added: "I’ve never written anything this far into the future before. The fact that it’s set in 43,000 AD was the main reason I signed on to the project. It granted me the ability to explore places, societies, and technology right out there on the edge of the fantastical. No science fiction author could resist the opportunity to push their imagination out to the kind of extreme that this timeframe allows."
