Transworld acquires new novel by Anna Hope

Transworld has bought a new novel by Anna Hope inspired by American TV series "The Affair".

The deal for UK and Commonwealth rights was negotiated by Jane Lawson at Transworld Publishers with Caroline Wood at the Felicity Bryan Agency.

The as yet untitled novel will be set in the modern day and tell the story of "the quest for a child" from the differing viewpoints of three women.

Lawson said, "Anna’s writing is emotional, gritty, often achingly poetic, and always big-hearted and authentic. Since we won her debut Wake in a fierce auction three years ago, she has become one of Transworld’s emerging literary stars, producing beautifully characterized sweeping high-concept narratives every time. Not only are her sales on the rise, but her publicity profile both on and offline is also growing. Her new untitled novel will be set in the modern day, told from the perspectives of three very different women, drawn together by the quest for a child. Inspired by the prize-winning TV series 'The Affair' we can expect plenty of love and infidelity, truth and desire, jealousy and lies … ."

Parallel Films recently optioned rights to Hope’s novel The Ballroom (Doubleday), a Richard and Judy autumn bookclub choice, after screenwriter Aisling Walsh picked up a copy at her local library. Walsh's credits include "A Poet in New York", the BBC adaptation of An Inspector Calls and, most recently, "Maudie", on release in 2017 starring Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins.

Transworld will publish Hope’s new novel in Doubleday hardcover early in 2018.
