Transworld has acquired two new novels from Clare Pooley, author of The Authenticity Project (2020) and The People on Platform 5 (2022).
Editorial director Sally Williamson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights in two new books from Hayley Steed at the Madeleine Milburn Literary Agency.
The deal includes Pooley’s new novel, How to Age Disgracefully, which tells the story of a social club where the elderly members don’t behave quite as expected. It will be published in hardback in spring 2024, and US rights have been sold to Pamela Dorman at Pamela Dorman Books.
Williamson said: “‘Clare is a dream to work with – super-talented, hard-working and creative. Her books are an utter joy to read and it’s been wonderful to see so many other people agree. I can speak on behalf of everyone at Transworld when I say how thrilled we are to continue to publish Clare and her brilliantly written, funny and charming novels.”
Pooley commented: “They say it takes a village to publish a book, and with Transworld and Pamela Dorman Books I have the most supportive and creative village of all. I couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with my incredibly talented editors, Sally Williamson and Pam Dorman, on two new novels.”
Steed said of Pooley: "She is as kind as she is creative […] Her ability to come up with relatable, fun and heart-warming concepts and stories knows no bounds.
“How to Age Disgracefully is another original and compelling read, with characters who I fell in love with right from the prologue. I’m so thrilled to see her publishing continue with Sally and Pam, who have been such an impressive force with The Authenticity Project and The People on Platform 5.”
