Transworld has scooped a Boris Johnson parody multiple-choice adventure book from Iain Hollingshead.
Kate Fox, deputy publishing director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights, including e-book and audio, to Boris Johnson: The Neverending Tory – The Adventure Where You Take Back Control from Charlie Campbell at Greyhound Literary. It will publish in November 2022.
Styled on the multiple-choice adventures of the 1980s and 1990s, The Neverending Tory will allow readers to choose Johnson’s path from childhood to political greatness – and if it ends badly, to go back and rewrite history.
The publisher said: “Whether he’s rotting in a Dubai jail, begging Prince Harry for a job, working for the KGB, leading Britain back into the EU, wandering round Kabul trying to find 150 dogs to rescue, starting World War Three or simply mistaking wine, cheese, vomit and karaoke for a work event, there’s an ending here for everyone.”
Fox said: “Is there anything more perfect for this prime minister than a book where, if things go wrong, you can just pretend it didn’t happen and try again? Iain’s parody was exceptional from the first word, so we’ve crashed this into our schedules like a London Mayor zip-lining into the Olympics.”
Hollingshead added: “I’ve had an indecent amount of fun this summer – not unlike a part-time prime minister pretending to be a Typhoon fighter pilot before flaunting his beach-ready body in Greece – imagining ludicrous scenarios involving Boris Johnson. Until The Neverending Tory is back again, what better way to mark the temporary departure of this famously indecisive politician than a book where you make all the decisions for him?”
