Transworld has acquired Beach Rivals by Georgie Tilney, described as a rivals-to-lovers summer rom-com perfect for fans of Emily Henry.
Commissioning editor Alice Rodgers bought world language rights from Claudia Young at Greene & Heaton for Transworld’s Bantam imprint. It will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in July 2023. Foreign rights have sold in Germany, Greece and Italy.
The synopsis reads: “Clare thought that by now she would have her life figured out. Instead, she’s living with her parents, working a job she hates and has absolutely no idea what she wants to do with the rest of her life. When she sees a viral job advert for a three-month bookseller position on a Bali beach, she jumps at the chance. But it’s not until she arrives in Bali that Clare realises she will be sharing the bookshop – and a flat – with handsome but infuriating Jack, who is Clare’s opposite in almost every way. Before long, they’re driving each other crazy. But fighting with Jack is also the most fun Clare’s had in years, and it’s only a matter of time before their relationship turns less than professional.”
Rodgers said: “I am so excited to be working on Beach Rivals with Georgie Tilney. She is such a talented author and her pages transport the reader deliciously to the Bali beach setting. Clare and Jack are incredibly loveable and relatable characters, and I cannot wait for readers to meet them!”
Tilney added: “Working with Transworld on Beach Rivals has been so wonderful. It’s been a privilege to bring Clare and Jack to life with their support, and I’m so excited to finally be sharing this book with the world.”
Tilney was born in New Zealand and currently lives in south London. She has written audio dramas for Night Vale Presents, BBC Sounds and Radiotopia under the name Janina Matthewson, as well as the novels Of Things Gone Astray (The Friday Project) and You Feel It Just Below the Ribs (Harper Perennial).
