Transworld has pre-empted a "practical step-by-step guide to understanding and harnessing the human mind" by former Hindu monk Dandapani.
The publisher signed UK and commonwealth rights to The Power of Unwavering Focus from Tom Dussel at Penguin US. It will be published by Bantam Press in trade paperback on 8th September 2022, and simultaneously with Penguin Portfolio in the US.
The book shares learnings from over 2,000 years of monastic wisdom that will help us to focus on one task at a time. The publisher said: "With distraction a silent epidemic in our modern world – damaging relationships, our working lives and, ultimately, our happiness – the book could not be better timed. We’ve become masters of distraction, Dandapani tells us, because that’s what we practise all day, every day, as our fast-paced lifestyles compete with a relentless bombardment of information. Switching focus from one thing to another all the time is making us unhappy.
"Drawing on his work with global businesses such as Nike, McKinsey and American Express, as well as with high-performance sports stars, this is a practical, step-by-step guide to understanding and harnessing the human mind. Armed with our new-found ability to concentrate, we will be better able to manifest our goals and achieve a happy and joyful life."
Andrea Henry, editorial director at Transworld, said: "The Power of Unwavering Focus spoke to all of us at Transworld as our attention is, on a daily basis, scattered between any number of projects, each requiring our attention. Dandapani delivers clear direction for how to overcome the distractions which prevent us from being able to focus on one thing at a time and see each task through to completion. The problem is that we’ve never before learned to focus, but Dandapani teaches us how. If you would like to learn how to take control of your attention, this is a book you can’t do without."
Dandapani added: "I’m delighted that my teachings on attention will find an even wider audience at a time when focus is so important and yet so difficult to achieve. I hope that my book will make a real difference to people’s quality of life – for me, that’s both exciting and rewarding. I’m looking forward to working with Transworld."
