Transworld has acquired Confessions of a Menopausal Woman by author and "Loose Women" presenter Andrea McLean, in which she sheds "timely and welcome" light on the subject of the menopause.
In the book, McLean talks about how she dealt with the menopause at the early age of 42 and how, after announcing her absence from the show as the result of a medically necessary hysterectomy, she was inundated by letters from other women struggling to cope with the experience of menopause. According to Transworld, many were "absolutely delighted that someone was finally talking openly and honestly about it".
Confessions of a Menopausal Woman is the book McLean wished she’d had as she grappled with the physical realities of her hysterectomy and the psychological fall-out of a difficult and early menopause.
Andrea Henry, editorial director at Transworld, called McLean's writing "pitch perfect" in bringing her trademark humour and openness to the "taboo" topic.
"Andrea is perfectly positioned to write this timely and much-needed book," Henry said. "Her writing is pitch perfect – she’s wonderfully honest, incredibly informative but also genuinely funny about the nuts and bolts of the menopause. This is a book for all women who are done with the taboos and just want to know what’s going on and what they can do about it, but, mostly, that they’re not alone. We’re all really excited about working with Andrea on this project."
McLean commented: "Who do you talk to about laying awake at 3am every night, literally sweating the small stuff? Is it normal to lose energy like a bunny missing its battery? Everything I discovered about the menopause through personal experience and professional expertise is in this book, which is as jaw-dropping, tear-jerking and laugh-out-loud honest as you need it to be... because let’s face it, who doesn’t love a juicy confession."
UK and Commonwealth rights were secured from Carly Cook acting on behalf of Jonny McWilliams at Crown Talent and Media Group. It will be published in trade paperback on 14th June 2018.
