Transworld has scooped The Real Happy Valley, a collection of real-life stories about female police officers serving across Yorkshire, written by a former policewoman.
Zoë Berville, senior commissioning editor, bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Eve White at Eve White Literary Agency to the book by Alice Vinten.
The synopsis says: "In The Real Happy Valley, former policewoman Alice Vinten reveals what life on the beat is really like for those protecting the cobbled streets and windswept hills of this historic county. From domestic abuse to kidnap, gang crime and murder, these women will stop at nothing to bring their criminals to justice and in the most extraordinary circumstances, they never fail to put others’ safety before their own.
"Gripping, inspiring and eye-opening, The Real Happy Valley is a celebration of our finest officers’ peerless commitment to protect and serve."
Berville commented: "We’re thrilled to be working with Alice on this riveting collection of real-life stories. As well as being a celebration of everything that made the series so captivating, The Real Happy Valley is also a fascinating – and often very moving – look at this remarkable profession."
Vinten added: "I’m delighted to be working with Transworld to highlight the inspiring stories of these amazing Yorkshire policewomen. It’s so important to me, as a former police constable myself, to show the public just what women in the service are capable of, and hopefully encourage more women to join the police."
