Transworld has signed a "ground-breaking" study on women and pornography conducted by Dr Fiona Vera-Gray, one of the leading academics in the UK working on sexual violence.
UK and Commonwealth rights, including e-book and audiobook, were bought by deputy publishing director Kate Fox from Caroline Hardman at Hardman & Swainson. Women on P*rn will be published on 8th February 2024.
Distilling the results of a study where Vera-Gray interviewed 100 women aged 18-70 about their experience of pornography, Women on P*rn presents these conversations in a "extraordinary and powerful" exploration of how pornography uses and is used by women today.
Fox commented: "As soon as I picked up Dr Vera-Gray’s proposal I was hooked – I had never heard these kinds of story before, and in the 21st century I was furious to know why not. In the vein of the Hite Report or Nancy Friday, these are accounts of the most intimate and eye-opening kind. Pornography is the last great taboo – we’re all doing it, but nobody is talking about it, and nobody is exploring what it means for women. This book is going to change that."
Vera-Gray said: "The women who spoke to me about porn shared so much of themselves, about their relationship to desire and their body, their stories of sex and pleasure, their experiences of violence and fears for the future. I always wished I could have them in a room talking to each other. This book is my version of that. A window into the conversations we need to be having that we don’t want to have."
