Transworld has signed Emma Mason’s Murder Most Haunted in a two-book deal. The new series will feature retired detective Midge McGowan.
Editorial director Finn Cotton acquired world all-language rights from Sam Copeland at RCW. Murder Most Haunted will be published in October 2025 with the second novel, Murder on the Haunted Express, following after.
Midge McGowan has been "given the retirement present from hell: a ticket to take part in a haunted house tour". The synopsis continues: "She’ll have to spend a weekend ghost-hunting with a group of misfits, including a know-it-all paranormal investigator and a has-been pop star. Midge can’t imagine how it could get any worse, but on the first night, someone is murdered – in a room that’s been locked from the inside. Could a ghost really be responsible, or is the culprit one of the guests?"
Cotton said: "This book defies genres and expectations. Combining the best elements of a classic locked-room murder mystery with a spine-tingling haunted house story, it’s as original and surprising as its hero, Midge McGowan. I can’t wait to introduce the inimitable Midge and this brilliant new mystery series to readers this year."
Mason added: "Midge is the friend that no one notices but everyone needs, and I’m excited for readers to meet her."
