Transworld has snapped up Morbidly Yours by Ivy Fairbanks in a two-book deal.
Editor Lara Stevenson acquired UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, for two books from Suzannah Ball at WME. The first book, Morbidly Yours, was previously self-published. The Penguin edition will be re-released in summer 2024. There is currently no name or publication date for the second book.
The synopsis says: “When Lark Thompson, an extroverted animator moves to Galway to start afresh after losing her husband, the last thing she expects to find next door is a funeral home. Callum Flannelly is a socially awkward, demi-sexual mortician who can only inherit the family business if he gets married by his next birthday – in nine months’ time. So Lark agrees to help him find The One, but as their connection grows, it becomes more difficult for them to bury their feelings.”
Demiseuxality refers to experiencing sexual or romantic attraction to another person only after having formed a deep emotional bond with them.
Stevenson said: “From the moment I heard the unique premise of this book, I knew I was going to fall in love with Morbidly Yours – and I did! This is a delightfully fun and life-affirming opposites-attract rom-com with real heart (and spice) that readers of Ali Hazelwood will adore. I am incredibly excited to be working with Ivy to ensure that her glorious romances reach as many readers as possible.”
Fairbanks said: “I’m delighted to work with a publisher who is just as excited to share this odd little story as I am. The team at Transworld is an excellent fit, especially with Lara being Irish herself. Morbidly Yours is in good hands!”
