Trapeze has snapped up a “celebration of love” reflecting stories from women of colour in a one-book deal.
Senior commissioning editor Katie Brown acquired world rights in all languages to Who’s Loving You from Sara Keane at Keane Kataria Literary Agency. The collection will be published in audio and e-book in February 2021, with a campaign planned around Valentine’s Day and International Women’s Day.
The book will be collated by The Nearness of You (Piatkus) author Sareeta Domingo (pictured) who will also be a contributing author. Novelists Dorothy Koomson, Irenosen Okojie and Rowan Hisayo Buchanan, gal-dem journalists Kuchenga and Varaidzo, producer and writer Daniellé Dash and debut author Sara Jafari will contribute stories to the collection. Further writers will be announced in 2020.
The synopsis explains: “The anthology will be a celebration of love in all its guises, reflecting the experiences of women of colour in an authentic and nuanced way. Written by the best storytellers working in the UK today, both established and up-and-coming, Who’s Loving You will truly be a collection of love stories in full colour.”
Brown said: “When I met Sareeta, I was immediately blown away by her vision, drive, and ideas and when she told me about the concept for her love stories, I knew I had to be the one to publish the collection. This is definitely a dream project for me and working alongside Sareeta – a prodigious talent – makes it all the more special. Sareeta has brought on board some of the most exciting writers working in British publishing and journalism, and we have other incredible contributors who I can’t wait to announce.”
Domingo added: "I couldn't be more thrilled to be working on a project that has been so close to my heart for so long. The opportunity to create an anthology that explores and challenges the idea of romantic fiction, by sharing stories from an unbelievably talented group of authors, is fantastically exciting."
Domingo will release If I Don't Have You with Jacaranda Books in 2020 and has previously published erotic novella The Confessional diaries of a Girl in Town with Pavilion in 2007. She also writes YA including Love, Secret Santa (Hachette Children's) under S.A. Domingo, edits at Harlequin Mills & Boon, and writes a blog, "The Palate Cleanser".
