Trapeze has landed the debut novel, This Is Not A Love Story, from "exciting new voice" Mary Hargreaves in a two-book deal.
Editorial director Phoebe Morgan bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Tanera Simons at Darley Anderson Agency to the debut and one further novel. It will be published in paperback, e-book and audio in summer 2020.
Morgan said: “Mary’s voice is so relatable for any woman struggling to work out why her life feels such a mess. It’s for everyone who’s ever had one drink too many at a work event and woken up with 'The Fear', or scrolled through Instagram wishing they were a better version of themselves. It’s heartfelt, witty, and above all, true. It isn’t about falling in love, it’s about finding out who you are. Mary is an incredibly talented author and I’m over the moon to bring her to Trapeze.”
Hargreaves said her book had found its “perfect home” at Trapeze. She went on: “The passion and enthusiasm that Phoebe has is infectious, and I am so excited and humbled to be working alongside such a dynamic and vibrant team. This has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember, and I am infinitely grateful to Phoebe, Tanera and the teams at Trapeze and Darley Anderson for making it a reality.”
“Mary is an exciting new voice in women’s fiction and I am thrilled that she will be working with the dynamic and passionate team at Trapeze,” Simons added. “This is Not a Love Story is authentic and witty, and Mary explores what it means to be successful as well as the gap between reality and social media: it’s timely and relatable, and I know that readers will fall in love the same way we have.”
