Trapeze has pre-empted I’m F*cking Amazing, the “dazzlingly original” debut novel by stage and screen writer Anoushka Warden.
Editorial director Sareeta Domingo signed UK and Commonwealth rights, excluding Canada, from Matilda Forbes Watson at WME. Pitched as “a body-positive Bridget Jones for the ’Fleabag’ generation”, it will publish in 2023 in hardback, e-book and audio.
The blurb explains: “I’m F*cking Amazing follows a woman in her early 30s, unabashed in her sexual desires—with the Top Humps of her past to prove it—whose sexual thirst begins to diminish with her apparently perfect long-term boyfriend. Following years of Asda shops and kisses on the sofa her mojo has dried up and try as she might to reignite it, the thrill is gone. If first comes love, then comes marriage, what becomes of happily-ever-after for a woman who can’t stand sex with the person she wants to be with forever? From NHS dildos to prosecco-fuelled best friend advice the answer—and the key to reigniting her now broken and not-seeming-to-work-very-well fanny—might be someone entirely new. But what will be the personal price of opening herself up, mentally and physically?”
Warden’s first play “My Mum’s a Tw*t” was staged at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Upstairs in 2018 with Patsy Ferran performing the one-woman show. She is currently developing it for a TV series. In 2020 Warden won the Platform Presents Playwright’s Prize for her second play, “My Dad’s A C**t”. She is currently head of PR at the Royal Court Theatre and is working on her first feature film with Erebus Pictures.
She said: “I’m so excited to be able to unleash this badass character and delighted to be doing so with Trapeze Books. Apologies in advance to your spam folders!”
Domingo added: “I’m F*cking Amazing grabbed me immediately and wouldn’t let me go. Anoushka’s writing is blisteringly honest, hilarious, sexy and unapologetic, and the story is hugely relatable and big-hearted. It’s a perfect book for Trapeze Fiction and will have its readers desperate to discuss it. I’m thrilled to be publishing it.”
Forbes Watson added: “We have loved introducing this character to editors here and it makes perfect sense for Anoushka to partner with Sareeta and Trapeze, a list that chimes with everything this book is.”
