Trapeze has pre-empted the “addictive page-turner” by debut author Erica Katz – a New York lawyer writing under a pseudonym.
Publishing director Sam Eades bought English language rights, excluding Canada, the Philippines, the USA and its dependencies, from Stephanie Koven at Cullen Stanley on behalf of Allison Hunter at Janklow & Nesbit. The Boys’ Club will be published in hardback, trade paperback, e-book and audio in June 2020.
The book is described as “a dark coming-of-age novel about a young woman starting her career at a large Manhattan law firm, seduced by the money and by her colleagues. She realises that the only way to get ahead at the firm is to be one of the guys, both in the office and after hours.”
Eades said: “The whole team were electrified by Erica Katz’s debut The Boys’ Club which takes the reader behind the scenes of the world of corporate law. Part Devil Wears Prada and part ‘Suits’, The Boys’ Club is an addictive page-turner that manages to tap into conversations around workplace bullying, harassment and discrimination without feeling exploitative. It is destined for the screen, and we can’t wait to launch this as our summer superlead for 2020.”
Katz said: “I’m thrilled to be published by the team at Trapeze. It was so important to me that a publisher approach publishing my work with the same passion and care that I took in writing it. I feel supremely grateful to have found my book a home at Trapeze.”
