Trapeze has acquired Toksvig’s Atlas, a book of "eclectic ramblings around the world" by writer and broadcaster Sandi Toksvig.
Pippa Wright, publishing director, acquired UK and Commonwealth rights from Cathryn Summerhayes at Curtis Brown. Publication is scheduled for 14th April 2022.
Following the publication of Toksvig’s Almanac (Trapeze) earlier this year, which shared untold stories of women from history, Toksvig is turning her attention to the hidden triumphs and challenges of women — and the occassional man — from all around the world. From the 22 syllables that can get a woman killed in Afghanistan, to the female bikers of Marrakesh, to the boxing club that saves Maori women’s lives, these are stories that rarely escape the borders of their own countries, said the publisher. The book will be divided into seven sections, one for each continent.
Wright said: "Toksvig’s Almanac struck a chord with so many thousands of readers, and I couldn’t be happier that we will have an atlas from Sandi in 2022 to further our knowledge of hidden histories from around the world."
Toksvig commented: "Working on the Almanac introduced me to far too many fascinating stories to fit in one book. Last time the impetus was history, this time it’s place. It turns out the world is enormous, and so is our lack of knowledge about so much of it."
