Helen Callaghan, debut novelist behind psychological thriller Dear Amy, has signed a two-book deal with Michael Joseph.
She is currently working on her next novel, about a young woman's parents' murder-suicide, set to be published on 10th August. It centres around a young woman who returns to her Suffolk home to discover the bodies of her parents in an apparent murder-suicide. Intent to clear her mother's name, she must explore her "dark and secret" past to find out the truth while her father fights for his life.
Hitchcock said the new novels promised to be as "tense" as her debut Dear Amy, which published in paperback last Thursday (26th January). The two-book deal, for UK and Commonwealth rights, was agreed by publishing director Maxine Hitchcock with Judith Murray at Greene and Heaton.
“Helen is a huge talent and with Dear Amy we have got off to the very best of starts," Hitchcock said. "Dear Amy is a bewitching read – terrifying and sophisticated in equal measure – and Helen’s next novels promise to deliver similarly tense reading experiences. In journeying into the darkest corners of her characters’ minds, and setting up the most ingenious of plots, she has shown that she is already a master of her genre."
Callaghan said: “I couldn’t be happier that I’m going to continue working with the team at Michael Joseph. I was blown away by the care, attention, and encouragement I was shown and am really looking forward to seeing what they do with my next books.”
