Juno Dawson to release memoir in 2017

Two Roads has acquired a book on gender and transitioning by Juno Dawson, the multi-award winning author previously known as James Dawson.

The Gender Games will be part memoir, part diary and a "call to arms", according to the publisher, which described the title as "an important, but refreshing look at gender politics from a compelling, articulate, funny and moving voice". It will explore both feminism and femininity and what it means in science, society, media and culture today.

The book will also feature contributions from writers both inside and outside the LBGT community including editor of Glamour Jo Elvin, writer and broadcaster Dawn O’Porter, author Jack Monroe, artist and performer Krishna Istha and Rebecca Root from transgender BBC sitcom Boy Meets Girl.

Kate Hewson, senior editor at Two Roads, bought world rights from Sallyanne Sweeney at Mulcahy Associates.

Dawson, who announced her transition in 2015, said: "My whole life I've existed somewhere between what we consider male and female, and I'm fascinated by constructs of gender and the damage they do. For the first time, I'm telling my story, unfiltered, documenting my transition, and arguing why I feel we need a gender revolution."

Hewson said: "We are thrilled to welcome Juno to Two Roads. Her writing is so direct, entertaining and compelling, you almost don’t realise that she’s changing how you think – this is a book that needs to exist, and she is the perfect writer to make that happen."

Two Roads will publish the book in hardback in July 2017.
