Two Roads has signed comedian Laura Lexx’s "uplifting" debut novel Pivot for release in June 2022.
Kate Hewson, publishing director, bought UK and Commonwealth rights from Diana Beaumont at Marjacq.
Lexx’s previous book, Klopp Actually, a comic imagining of life married to Liverpool FC manager Jurgen Klopp, was published by Two Roads in 2020. She has had four critically acclaimed solo stand-up shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, has won Best Performer in the Comedian’s Choice Awards twice and appeared widely on TV and radio, from “Mock the Week” to “Live at the Apollo”.
Pivot follows the life of 58-year-old Jackie Douglas, who finds herself lost after her partner leaves and who ends up a member of “a ramshackle, barely functional netball team” called The Skids.
Hewson said: “I’m so excited and privileged to be publishing Laura’s warm, funny, and uplifting debut novel. I totally fell in love with Jackie and her cobbled together netball team, and I know Laura has many more stories to tell in the future.”
Lex added: “The only thing I’m sad about with this entire experience is how much I miss the characters now I’m no longer writing them. I hope people fall in love with Jackie and that this team makes them smile. What an honour to be allowed to write a book.”
