UCLan Publishing has snapped up a “relatable and relevant” teen fiction title from debut author Sophie Jo.
Hazel Holmes, publisher, bought UK rights to The Nicest Girl from Chloe Seager at Madeleine Milburn. It will publish in paperback in August.
The Nicest Girl is described by the publisher as “an intelligent, warm novel about boundaries and the delicacy of balancing one’s own feelings alongside others”. It asks the question, where is the line between nice and too nice?
Jo is an ambassador for Women’s Aid, a national charity working to end domestic violence against women and children, and has worked with a number of newspapers to spread the word about healthy teenage relationships.
Holmes said: “This book is so relatable on so many different levels. I’m thrilled to be adding The Nicest Girl to our growing list of contemporary YA.’’
Jo added: “I’m so excited to be working with UCLan. Hazel, my editor Emma and the rest of the team instantly understood what I was aiming for with this book and I can’t wait to share it with readers. I hope that a lot of people–teens and adults alike–will be able to relate to its themes.”
Seager said: “Sophie’s book, about the importance of boundary-setting, is one of the most relatable and relevant books I’ve read and I’m so glad it’s found the perfect home with the team at UCLan. I can’t wait for teens (and older readers) to meet Anna.”
