Unbound, an international, crowdfunded publishing company, has snapped up a new standalone mystery by crime author Tony White. The novel marks the return of the “complex and compelling” London policeman, detective Sergeant Rex King. It continues White’s work based on the 90 days between the end of the miners’ strike and the Battle of the Beanfield at Stonehenge on 1st June 1985, reputedly the largest civilian mass arrest in British history, which he has been writing about for 10 years.
Senior commissioning editor Mathew Clayton bought world English-language rights to Phantom at the Feast from Sarah Such at the Sarah Such Literary Agency, for publication in November 2025.
Clayton said: “I have long admired Tony White’s writing. His combination of bold experimentation interwoven with classic storytelling is unique. Phantom at the Feast is a gripping crime novel as well as a serious examination of the culture and operations of the police. With D S Rex King, Tony has created one of London’s all-time great anti-heroes. I am delighted that he, and Tony, are now part of the Unbound (crime) family.”

White, a member of the Crime Writers’ Association, said: “I couldn’t be happier to be working with Mathew Clayton, an editor I greatly respect, and that Unbound moved so enthusiastically and quickly to acquire Phantom at the Feast. It’s particularly thrilling because Mathew, John Mitchinson and the Unbound family were also such appreciative readers of The Fountain in the Forest and have published Edward Powys Mathers’ Cain’s Jawbone so brilliantly. I share Unbound’s utter joy in books and reading and love their innovative and influential community-building approach. I’m delighted to be part of this new chapter in the Unbound story and look forward to sharing Phantom at the Feast with readers.”
Phantom at the Feast will be published by Unbound in hardback and e-book in November 2025, and in paperback in July 2026.
