Urbane signs memoir from Bafta-winner Geoff Thompson

Urbane has signed a memoir from Bafta-winning screenwriter and martial arts teacher Geoff Thompson.

Managing directors Kerry-Jane Lowery and Matthew Smith acquired world rights to Notes From A Factory Floor: How I got from there to here directly from Thompson. It will be published in April.

Following previous autobiography Watch My Back (Summersdale), Lowery said the new book provides “a fascinating insight into an astonishing life”.

Thompson, who won a Bafta in 2004 for short film "Brown Paper Bag", has worked with stars including Ray Winstone, Paddy Considine, Orlando Bloom and Maxine Peake.

The book’s synopsis explains: “Geoff is often asked to fill in the gaps of his fascinating and inspirational life story by eager fans. How did he manoeuvre himself from a tiny room in a Coventry bedsit to the hallowed halls of Bafta Piccadilly? What was the trajectory, and who did he meet along the way - who were the angels and demons of destiny? And what can we all learn from his incredible journey?  Ultimately people want to know the real Geoff, the inner thoughts, the essential touchpoints of his pilgrimage, the lessons of his unique experiences.”

Thompson said: “The time feels right to bring my story up-to-date and show how I’ve evolved since the days of Watch My Back – and how anyone can bring about positive change in their lives. I wanted to work with Urbane because of their knowledge and expertise, but primarily because they proactively engage with the author and the story. They get it. And that’s key for an author telling his personal story. I can’t wait to get this story out into the hands of the fans and beyond.”
