Usborne has snapped up Mondays are Murder and one other YA "killer" thriller by Ravena Guron.
Becky Walker and Sarah Stewart, both senior commissioning editors at Usborne, acquired UK and Commonwealth (excluding Canada) and audio rights in a two-book deal with Alice Sutherland-Hawes at ASH Literary. Usborne will publish Mondays are Murder in January 2025, and a further YA title in January 2026.
The author’s debut, This Book Kills (Usborne), was selected as a World Book Night title, and has sold into 12 foreign territories. Usborne is publishing Guron’s second YA thriller Catch Your Death this Christmas.
The synopsis for Mondays are Murder says: "Seventeen-year-old Nareeka “Niki” Gill grew up in the small town of Longrove, living next door to her beloved Aunt Sandra. She hasn’t been back to the town, though, since Aunt Sandra’s death three years ago – her parents wanted a fresh start. But with her mum and dad going on a weeklong cruise to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary, she’s staying for one week only, with her uncle and cousin, Rosie."
It goes on to add: "But when Niki arrives in Longrove on Monday, it is to find a threat has been left on her bed: Get ready for the next week because we’re going to play a game. Can you beat me and figure out my identity before the week is up? The stakes will just keep getting higher – there’s going to be a thrill on Tuesday, a wreckage on Wednesday, treachery on Thursday, a fire on Friday, a sinking on Saturday, a stabbing on Sunday – and your murder on Monday."
Walker said: “Balancing the perfectly delicious combination of expert plotting, twists that you wouldn’t dream might be around the corner, and the wittiest of characters, Ravena is truly the queen of killer thrillers. We know readers are going to find themselves murderously gripped – and what can we say: we do like Mondays… when Ravena Guron writes them.”
Guron added: “I’m delighted to continue working with Usborne – they’ve been the perfect home for my YA thrillers, from their incredible editorial insights to their brilliant covers and everything in between, and I’m excited for the books we’re planning.”
Sutherland-Hawes said: “Ravena is a true talent and I’m excited for her brand of fresh, exciting thrillers to grow with Usborne."
