Ebury imprint Vermilion has snapped up Food Isn’t Medicine: Challenge Nutribollocks and Escape the Diet Trap, the first book from campaigner and influencer Dr Joshua Wolrich.
Editor Emma Owen acquired world rights from Max Parker at 84 World. Food Isn’t Medicine will publish in April 2021.
Wolrich is an NHS surgical trainee and nutrition MSc student who sets the record straight on spurious nutrition advice. He is also fighting weight stigma and campaigning for healthcare to become weight-inclusive, spreading the message via his podcasts and his more than 350,000 followers online.
Vermilion explained: “In Food Isn’t Medicine, Wolrich wades through nutritional science (both good and bad) to demystify the common diet myths that many of us believe without questioning. If you have ever wondered whether you should stop eating sugar, try fasting, juicing or ‘alkaline water’, or struggled through diet after diet (none of which seem to work), this book will be a powerful wake-up call. As a doctor with personal experience of how damaging diet culture can be, he believes every one of us deserves to have a happy, healthy relationship with food and with our bodies.”
Wolrich said: “This book has been a labour of love and I really hope that you find it useful when navigating the current state of nutritional discourse. I want this to both be a resource for challenging misconceptions around weight and health, as well as an encyclopaedia of nutribollocks that you can refer back to time and time again after the first read through.”
Owen added: “Joshua is on a mission to help each of us escape the diet trap and build a positive relationship with food and our body. That mission is at the core of Food Isn’t Medicine, and it’s delivered with straight-talking humour. We’re thrilled to welcome Joshua to Vermilion and can’t wait to publish this powerful and life-changing book.”
