Ebury imprint Vermilion has clinched the debut of psychologist Dr Pippa Grange, who has been credited with helping to transform the England team in the 2018 World Cup, in a 24-hour pre-empt.
Grange's Fear Less: How to Win at Life, Without Losing Yourself is slated for publication in May 2020.
Ebury m.d. Joel Rickett acquired UK, Commonwealth and translation rights in a pre-emptive deal, within 24 hours of submission, with Rory Scarfe at the Blair Partnership.
Vermilion said: “In Fear Less, Pippa Grange will open with a question: if we were truly free from fear, what could we achieve? She will show how the more we strive for success – putting on a brave face for work or family – the more we risk losing ourselves. The culprit? Fear. It makes us anxious, or shameful, or turns us into perfectionists. We pretend to be someone else while aiming for a status that’s never truly satisfying.”
The book promises to “set out a different way forward: a way to find our true voice, to win on our own terms”. Offered as an “empowering manifesto, Pippa Grange shows how, by starting to live with less fear, we can find our real passions and deeper fulfilment”.
Grange is a doctor of sports psychology and a culture coach working across elite sports and business internationally. As head of people and team development at the Football Association, she worked closely with the England team for the World Cup in 2018.
Grange said: “I’m humbled and excited to have an opportunity to share these ideas and approaches with a wider audience in a way that might spark some different thinking and offer more nourishment for the reader’s own journey. Thank you to Ebury and Vermilion for their wonderful trust and guidance.”
Joel Rickett said: “Pippa Grange is a remarkable talent, as shown by her pivotal work with England, where she helped the players find a new way to express themselves, connect with each other, and even keep a cool head when taking a penalty. The original approaches she takes in these highly charged arenas apply to all of us, struggling with any challenge in our work or personal lives. We couldn’t think of a more perfect and life-changing author for Vermilion to publish, alongside Brené Brown, Angela Duckworth and of course Steve Peters’ The Chimp Paradox.”
