Indie press Vertebrate has signed a three-book deal with mountaineer and writer John D Burns.
Jon Barton, m.d. of the Sheffield-based publisher, bought world rights in digital and print for new book Sky Dance direct from the author. He also acquired rights for print editions of two existing books, The Last Hillwalker and The Great Outdoors Outdoor Book of the Year-nominated Bothy Tales. All three will be published in September.
In Sky Dance, Burns returns to the Scottish hills to ask fundamental questions about how we relate to this northern landscape, now that wild land is threatened like never before.
Alex Roddie, who edited Sky Dance, said: “John Burns is one of my most valued clients. Working on his books is a privilege – he has a knack for blending genuine humour with a canny take on British mountain culture. Our partnership has helped John to hone his writing skills while offering me plenty of engaging material to work on. I’m delighted that Vertebrate Publishing will be taking on John’s books.”
