Vertigo acquires two 'cosy crime' mysteries by Raman

Pushkin Vertigo is to publish two Indian detective novels by R V Raman. 

Editor Harriet Wade acquired UK and commonwealth rights, excluding Canada and India, from Linda Biagi at Biagi Literary Management. Commenting on the acquisition, Wade said: "Raman is a master of the form, with fiendish plotting and twists and turns at every point. Think 'Knives Out' in its charming (and very modern) take on a classic genre."

Described as "charming cosy crime mysteries", A Will to Kill and Dire Isle are ‘Golden Age’-esque in style but set in contemporary India, all featuring the detective Harith Athreya. A Will to Kill sees a landslide occur in the hills of the Nilgiris, isolating guests at a colonial mansion and resulting in a murder.

Raman lives in India where he teaches and writes, and has previously been published by HarperCollins India. This will be his first detective series. He said he was: "truly excited to be published by Pushkin Vertigo, whose diverse books I have thoroughly enjoyed reading. I'm delighted that the Athreya series will reach new audiences through them."

A Will to Kill will publish in autumn 2021 with the second following in 2022.
