Viking is publishing a memoir by Nicola Adams, twice Olympic and world champion boxer.
Emily Robertson, editor at Viking and Penguin Life, acquired world rights from Ed Griffiths at ROAR Global. The book will be published in April 2017 as a hardback and e-book, priced £14.99.
Adams is the reigning Olympic, World, Commonwealth Games and European Games boxing champion at flyweight, and her Olympic victories mark the first time since 1924 a British boxer has retained their Olympic champion status over two consecutive games. She became the first woman in the UK to win an Olympic gold medal for boxing during London 2012 and won her second Olympic gold in Rio 2016.
Adams, from Leeds, topped the list of the Independent's 101 most influential LGBT people in Britain for 2012 and was voted Glamour’s Sportswoman of the Year in 2013. She has also appeared as an extra in some of British soaps, including "Coronation Street" and "Emmerdale", and had a cameo appearance in the BBC drama series "Waterloo Road", where she played herself.
Robertson said: “In one of Team GB’s most successful Olympics to date, Nicola’s performance in the ring and her endless positivity really shone out. Women’s boxing wasn’t an Olympic sport until 2012, but that didn’t stop Nicola, aged 13, dreaming of winning gold in the sport. This inspiring memoir is about how, through great determination in the face of many challenges, she made her journey to Olympic greatness, all with that iconic smile on her face. Nicola inspires us all to strive for our dreams, however impossible they may seem.”
Golden couple Laura Trott and Jason Kenny, who between them have amassed 10 Olympic gold medals in cycling, recently signed with Michael O'Mara to publish their joint autobiography in November, as announced yesterday (12th September).
