Virago, a divison of Hachette, has acquired a new “groundbreaking” book on postmenopause by Dr Stella Duffy.
The book focuses on how we can shape and make the most of our postmenopause, which can be a quarter to a third of a woman’s life.
Publisher Sarah Savitt bought UK and translations rights to Being the Change: Shaping Your Creative Postmenopause from Stephanie Cabot at Susanna Lea Associates in an exclusive submission, for publication in spring 2027.
Savitt said: “Anyone who’s encountered Stella – in person or on the page – knows how wise and inspiring she is, and I’m delighted that she’s going to write non-fiction for the first time. Drawing on her academic research, her psychotherapy practice and her own life, Being the Change will be a groundbreaking book, and one that feels so fitting for the Virago list because of how it will foreground a subject that is mainly ignored and invisible in our society.”
Dr Duffy added: “Having been postmenopausal since my thirties, I am clear that while menopause brings challenges for many of us, there is life afterwards, and we can choose to move forward with hope and self-commitment. In sharing my own experience and that of my research interviewees, Being the Change will offer possibility and practical tools for creating a vibrant and fulfilling period of our lives.”
