W F Howes has snapped up a new audiobook original by Charity Shop Sue, a parody created by comedy writing trio Dead Sweet.
Charity Shop Sue’s Tools for Management and Success will publish exclusively in audiobook format in February 2024 and star Selina Mosinski as the voice of Charity Shop Sue in a satire of the business and management book genre, set in the same universe as the eponymous 2019 Youtube mockumentary.
World English language rights were acquired by acquisitions manager Laura Smith.
Recorded in the fictional Sec*hand Chances charity shop in Nottingham, the audiobook will follow Sue as she “finally shares her insights with the world, including how to dress for success, motivate difficult staff, break up fights at work, and take other people’s ideas".
The 2019 mockumentary series was popular among a LGBTQIA+ and Gen-Z fanbase, chronicling shop floor antics and awkward exchanges between colleagues and customers. Its success led to Mosinski, starring as Sue, to be invited for special appearances on TV shows such as “Strictly Come Dancing”, “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and the “Eurovision Song Contest".
Smith said: “When Charity Shop Sue burst onto the scene and went viral during the pandemic, it became clear that this was a significant moment in British comedy. Trailblazing a new path for independent, queer written comedy, the team at Dead Sweet launched a pioneering concept that surpassed many traditional comedy formats with its popularity.”
Matthew and Timothy Chesney and Stuart Edwards, the trio behind Dead Sweet, said: “Charity Shop Sue’s Tools for Management and Success is the ultimate ‘how-to’ guide from everybody’s favourite manager. It will give fans a chance to delve deeper into the world of the shop and offer a more intimate side of Sue’s trials, tribulations, and wins".
