Walker Books has acquired a further two titles in the Eerie-on-Sea Mysteries series by Thomas Taylor.
The fourth and fifth titles in the series will continue to follow Herbert Lemon and Violet Parma’s adventures alongside the eccentric cast of characters living in their unusual seaside town, documented so far in Malamander (2019) and Gargantis (2020). The third in the series, Shadowghast, is set to publish in September 2021.
Senior commissioning editor Emma Lidbury signed a deal for world rights for two books with Kirsty McLachlan at Morgan Green Creatives Ltd. Executive editorial director Susan Van Metre will edit the title for Walker US.
Lidbury said: "There is a such a love for this series, and a horde of fans across the world will be delighted to hear that Thomas Taylor hasn’t finished with Eerie-on-Sea just yet. Each new mystery is full of eerie intrigue, all told in Herbie’s brilliant voice. And now readers will finally get to learn Herbie’s story – surely the biggest mystery of all!"
Taylor commented: "I’m delighted for the chance to delve deeper into the curious world of Eerie-on-Sea, and the fascinating characters I have found there. Of course, doing this will mean exposing Herbie and Violet to even more legendary creatures and dastardly peril along the way ('Bladderwracks!'), but I'll always make sure there’s plenty of fish and chips and cake and fireside friendship for them to share – with each other, and with the reader. Thank you, Walker Books!"
