HarperCollins Children’s Books has revealed David Walliams’ “riotously funny” new picture book Grannysaurus, which will publish in time for Christmas.
Grannysaurus will be the 10th picture book by Walliams and the third collaboration with illustrator Adam Stower. It will publish on 8th December.
Walliams has sold 22.6 million books for £133.7m via Nielsen BookScan in the UK, with The World’s Worst Pets notching up a 12-week streak as the children’s number one over the summer. Gangsta Granny is his bestseller on 1.56 million copies sold in paperback.
The publisher said: “One night, little boy Spike creeps downstairs in his pyjamas to find that his granny has turned into a dinosaur – Grannysaurus! And, with her friends Brontosaurus, Stegosaurus and Gigantosaurus, she is having a DINO DISCO in the living room! Spike wants to stay up and party too! But how will Grannysaurus ever get him back to bed? Perhaps her next guest, Tyrannosaurus Rex, can help!”
Nick Lake, fiction and author brands publisher, said: “David Walliams is a phenomenon in the world of publishing, having just celebrated 50 million books sold, and with a range of novels and picture books to delight the whole family. Grannysaurus sees David pair up again with Adam Stower, illustrator of the bestselling Little Monsters and Marmalade, for a riotously funny adventure of dancing dinosaurs, surprising twists and gloriously illustrated action. With a hilarious and empowering bedtime message, Grannysaurus is sure to be a perennial favourite, and perfect Christmas gift, for children who like to stay up a little late – and their grown-ups.”
Walliams said: “This is my most imaginative picture book yet and I am thrilled that Adam Stower is doing the hard work of illustrating it. I adored his work on Little Monsters and Marmalade. At night when children go to bed the dinosaurs come out to play! They disco dance until dawn. Or do they? I hope this will be the perfect book for bedtime.”
Stower also commented: “Grannysaurus is a joy. I have always loved dinosaurs so illustrating this hilarious night-time adventure has been so much fun. Readers young and old will recognise and delight in Spike’s irresistible curiosity and his determination not to miss out on all the fun beyond bedtime.”
