Wang's debut rush-published by HoZ
Head of Zeus (HoZ) has snapped up a US debut and rush-published it within a month of acquisition.
Family Trust by Kathy Wang is a novel about an Asian-American family living in Silicon Valley, published by HarperCollins in US and is the first title selected for the inaugural and newly unveiled Buzzfeed Book Club,a partnership between the news website and Amazon.
Publisher Nic Cheetham noticed last Thursday (25th October) that the book did not have a UK publisher, a week before its publication in America.
Two days later, fiction publisher at HoZ Laura Palmer, struck a deal with Rachel Clements at Abner Stein for UK and Commonwealth rights on behalf of Michelle Brower and Chelsey Heller at Aevitas Creative Management, and on Tuesday (30th October), the independent publisher sent the book to the printers. It is now available in e-book and will be available in hardback and export trade paperback on 1st December.
Palmer said: "Family Trust has been compared to Crazy Rich Asians, and I loved its mix of tragedy, comedy and family drama. I knew we had a potential hit on our hands, but I also knew we'd have to match the Buzzfeed Bookclub date of 1st November. Luckily we have an amazing art and production team who can turn around a book in under three days if they have to."
Wang said: “I am thrilled to be working with Head of Zeus and its wonderful editorial and creative team to bring Family Trust to readers in the UK, and ANZ.”
The newly launched Buzzfeed Bookclub from media organisation Buzzfeed and e-retalier Amazon reportedly offers club members discounts on books, and BuzzFeed gets a share of the sales that Amazon makes to members who click on affiliate links, according to CNN. The club was originally announced on 16th October.
The "BuzzFeed Book Club" features access to an exclusive newsletter as well as a closed Facebook group, acting as a virtual book club, where members can discuss the book of the month as well as access author events. Members will also reportedly receive exclusive discounts both on the book of the month and other top-selling titles, Business Insider reported. There is currently no membership fee.
