Watkins has scooped Hooked: Why We Are Addicted and How to Break Free, an addictive behaviour self-help book, by psychotherapist Talitha Fosh.
Editor Lucy Carroll acquired world all-language rights from Oscar Janson-Smith while we at Gleam Futures. Janson-Smith has since left to start his own agency. The book will be published in May 2024 with a foreword from Adwoa Aboah, model and founder of GurlsTalk.
Written "specifically to target the Millennial and Generation Z audience", Hooked is an "approachable" guide for those who struggle with addictive behaviour. Fosh "reframes addiction away from the image of an extreme ’addict’ who has hit rock bottom and shows how addiction comes in many forms and across a wide spectrum".
Publisher Fiona Robertson commented: "We have been searching for a book that reflects the desires of a health conscious younger generation constantly exposed to addictive content and substances, from shopping ads on social media to alcohol and nicotine, who want to interrupt self-destructive cycles. The personal insight Tally offers in the book is profoundly moving and effective.”
Vicky Hartley, deputy managing director, added: "Hooked breaks down the journey of addiction into four key pillars: discovery, types of addiction, lows and denial and recovery. Tally explores why we often seek external factors to change the way we feel internally and provides practical tips and tools – from inner child work to expressive writing – to help readers break any self-destructive cycle they may find themselves in using easy steps. We are proud to have Tally Fosh as a Watkins author and to have this important book on our spring 2024 list."
