Welbeck Children’s has signed two more plant-based recipe and lifestyle books from Niki Webster, author of Be More Vegan (Welbeck Children's, 2020).
Joff Brown, editorial manager of Welbeck Children’s, made the deal for world rights with Malin Barrling at the Barrling International Literary Agency. The first title in the deal, My Vegan Year, will be published in November 2021, with the second to follow in November 2022.
My Vegan Year is billed as "the perfect companion for any young reader trying a plant-based diet, whether it’s adding a few more vegetable dishes to their weekly menu or going completely meat-and dairy-free".
The book will explore seasonal plant-based eating throughout the year, and will contain "inspiring" advice and "sensible" nutritional info, as will as 40 recipes which have been approved by a registered dietitian to ensure they work as part of a healthy, balanced diet. Other topics in the book will include growing your own vegetables, buying local seasonal produce, and advice on how to go animal cruelty-free in fashion, cosmetics and everyday products.
Brown commented: "We’re so excited about building on the great success of Be More Vegan with Niki. Young people are the real heroes behind veganism’s explosion in popularity, so there’s never been a better time for a book that helps young readers explore a plant-based diet, all year round."
Webster commented: "I've been incredibly honoured to see the response to my first cookbook for young adults, Be More Vegan. Receiving messages from teens and their parents and seeing them proudly post pics and videos of their dishes makes me especially happy. And through my next two upcoming vegan recipe and lifestyle books, I want to continue my support to help inspire this audience."
