Oh Editions has scooped London Block by Block, an illustrated guide to the city by Cierra Block in a two-book deal.
Associate publisher of the Welbeck gift and lifestyle imprint, Kate Pollard, acquired world rights in a two-book deal from Stevie Finegan at the Zeno Agency, with the first book to be published this September. A second book, featuring a different city, is due to follow in 2023. Spanish rights have already sold to Editorial Planeta SA.
Block is an illustrator and the creator of the London Block by Block Instagram account. "Each of her maps are a highly researched, visual depiction of London that help you explore the city whatever your interest," the synopsis reads. "This includes maps that show the sixteen best ice cream parlours in London, the very best independent bookshops in London, or perfect locations for a romantic evening.
"Cierra already runs a thriving business selling her maps as prints, calendars and tote bags as well as working with numerous high-profile brands including Uber, Co-Op and Peggy Porschen to create bespoke maps that can be used across their businesses."
Block said: "When I started illustrating maps of London it was a passion project to keep my mind busy during my maternity leave. I never imagined they would resonate with so many people and lead to me turning my illustrating into a full-time business. It is an absolute dream to turn my maps into a London guidebook with the amazing help from the wonderful team at Welbeck. They saw and shared my vision and I can’t wait to write and illustrate many more travel guides for cities around the world."
Pollard added: "Cierra’s maps are not just beautiful to look at, they contain addresses of hidden gems that even London locals might not know about. I’m thrilled to have worked with Cierra on this project, and I must confess that I myself have discovered some new haunts and rediscovered some areas of London I’d forgotten about during lockdown. I’m very much looking forward to working with her on her next instalment."
