Welbeck will publish a new non-fiction children's series by Andy Seed and Nick East, launching with Interview with a Tiger & Other Clawed Beasts Too on 17th September 2020.
Associate publisher Laura Knowles acquired world rights from Kate Shaw at The Shaw Agency, representing Seed. East was commissioned through Heather Richards at Tallbean.
The new series will explore 10 animals; their habits, behaviours, likes and dislikes, and favourite foods. The series will feature "interviews" in a Q&A format with a tiger, wolf, honey badger, giant armadillo, lion, jaguar, giant anteater, snow leopard, polar bear and three-toed sloth, and will give readers ideas on how to help endangered species and their habitats.
The second title in the series, Interview with a Shark and Other Ocean Giants Too, will be published in spring 2021, with further titles to follow.
Knowles said: "I’m thrilled to be working with such a talented pairing on this new series, which encapsulates one of Welbeck Children’s key focuses: to produce non-fiction that directly engages the child reader, presenting factual content in an accessible and fun package."
Seed commented: "What a dream book! It took a bit of ‘roar courage’, but who wouldn’t love to chat with a mighty tiger and ask fun questions? Plus, I'm working alongside one of the best illustrators in the business."
East added: "I really got my teeth into illustrating this brilliantly funny text. Can’t wait to get my claws into scribbling the next in the series... such a joy."
Seed is the author of non-fiction children's titles such as RSPB Wild Facts About Nature (Bloomsbury Children's, 2018), The Clue is in the Poo: And Other Things Too (QED Publishing, 2020).
