Welbeck has scooped a self-help book from "Great British Bake Off" finalist and body confidence advocate Laura Adlington.
Beth Bishop, commissioning editor at Welbeck Balance, acquired world all-language rights from Louise Leftwich at DML Talent. Diet Starts Monday: Ditch the Scales, Reclaim Your Body and Live Life to the Full will be published on 4th January 2024.
Since appearing on "The Great British Bake Off" in 2020, Laura has become an advocate for the plus-size community. Her debut book is described by the publisher as "a practical guide to body confidence in a looks-obsessed world".
It includes personal stories, advice and insight from health and wellbeing experts. The aim of the book is to dismantle "diet culture" and help readers overcome negative beliefs and build confidence.
Bishop said: "Laura is an inspiration and writes on this important subject with intelligence and empathy – I am thrilled to be working with her. Diet Starts Monday will be a much-needed tonic to the toxic diet culture that the New Year brings and will make a real impact on people’s lives."
Adlington added: "I’m writing this book for women and girls everywhere – may we free ourselves from the hamster wheel of dieting and live our best lives. I’m really pleased to have found a publisher who is as passionate about sharing this message as I am."
Leftwich commented: "I am delighted for Laura to be writing this very timely and powerful book. We felt Welbeck would be a great match to work with Laura on her book which will tackle complex topics utilising her uniquely sensitive, honest and humorous writing style. This book is bound to be a must-read!"
