Welbeck has landed "beautiful" photography book The Cure: Pictures of You by Tom Sheehan, featuring a foreword by Robert Smith.
Associate publisher Joe Cottington acquired world rights in all languages direct from Sheehan, the former chief photographer at Melody Maker magazine. The book will be published in hardback on 13th October, the same week The Cure embark on a 47-date, 22-country European tour.
"Spanning three decades and containing dozens of photographs published here for the very first time, The Cure: Pictures of You captures the band’s journey from cult heroes to global stars," the synopsis states. "With more than 200 images and a new four-part biography of the group by acclaimed author Simon Goddard, the book is a breathtaking visual chronicle of one of the world’s greatest bands and a must-have for their many fans."
Cottington said: "This beautiful book marks a new direction for the music list at Welbeck, and I can’t imagine a more exciting first step for us to be taking. Tom’s photographs show this incredible, essential band at work and play – on tour, in the studio, as bright young things and as veteran idols of the alternative scene. Some of the images that have been kept under wraps in Tom’s archive until now are truly stunning, and it’s a real joy to be shining a spotlight on them at last."
Sheehan added: "Putting this book together has been a total pleasure with the help of Carl Glover’s design and Simon Goddard’s writing, under the watchful eye of our editor Joe Cottington at Welbeck Publishing Group. Also not forgetting the invaluable input of Robert Smith himself, who took time out from recording to help with this project."
