Author Helen Whitaker has moved from publisher Trapeze to Hodder & Stoughton with two “wonderfully wintery and romantic comedies”.
Assistant editor Amy Batley acquired world English language rights, including audio, to the novels from Sarah Hornsley at PFD. The first, Single in the Snow, will publish in e-book in November, followed by paperback publication in December.
Single in the Snow tells the story of Jen, who, after a long series of failed relationships, decides she needs a change of pace, the publisher’s synopsis begins. She impulsively books a flight and moves to the famously picturesque ski resort of Whistler, Canada – with no job, no skiing experience, and one rule: to stay single for the entire season.
Helen Whitaker is the author of The School Run and I Give It a Year, both published by Trapeze.
Formerly the entertainment director of Glamour UK, she is the current editor of High Life magazine and a book reviewer for Grazia. Her writing has also been published in the Telegraph, Fabulous, Stella and Red.
Whitaker said: “I am so thrilled to be joining Amy and the team at Hodder for my first two romantic comedies.
“Ever since I did a ski season in Whistler when I was 21, I’ve thought the outwardly perfect bubble of a five-star resort being fuelled behind the scenes by thrown-together seasonal workers was the perfect setting for a winter rom-com. I hope readers love Jen and her snowboarding nemesis Art as much as I do and want to spend the festive period cheering on their story."
Batley added: "We couldn’t be more excited to be welcoming Helen to Hodder. Single in the Snow has it all: ski resort glamour, a fabulously fun cast of characters, and a completely gorgeous enemies-to-lovers romance! Helen’s writing is so joyful and brilliant, and Single in the Snow tackles big themes like grief and trauma with authenticity and a wonderful sense of humour. I can’t wait to introduce Helen’s readers, old and new, to Jen and Art’s story.”
